Centro di eccezionale interesse storico artistico, con un vasto territorio comunale ricco di testimonianze di storia e d’arte, ebbe origine nel medioevo dall’unione di due castelli feudali. Famosa perché fu la prima località in Italia (XIII secolo) in cui si iniziò a fabbricare carta. Con San Severino, Camerino e Urbino fu uno dei maggiori centri della pittura marchigiana.

Town of extraordinary importance from the point of view of history and art. It embraces a wide town territory dotted with elements witnessing its historic artistic relevance. Its origins date back to the medieval age, from the union of two feudal castles. Particularly renowned as it was the first town in Italy (XIII century) to produce paper. Together with San Severino, Camerino and Urbino it was the cradle of painting for the region Marche.
